Coopercentral Aurora's pork processing plant at Joaçaba, Santa Catarina, Brazil was closed down in early April. Almost 200 employees lost their jobs.
Aurora said the activities stopped due to a decrease in pork exports and a lack of infrastructure in that unit, according to Brazilian media reports. It is more feasible for the company to transport the animals to Chapecó, for slaughtering and processing the carcasses, than keeping the Joaçaba unit operational.
