World Pork Expo Industry Tour welcomes international visitors

The National Pork Producers Council (NPPC) will present the 21st annual World Pork Expo on June 3-5, 2009, at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines.

The National Pork Producers Council will present the 21st annual World Pork Expo on June 3-5, 2009, at the Iowa State Fairgrounds in Des Moines. As the largest pork-industry trade show and exhibition in the world, the expo draws tens of thousands of pork producers, exhibitors and visitors from across the country and around the globe.

An important new development for 2009 is the move from a late-week event to mid-week event, as requested by many of the producers and exhibitors that attend the show each year. Trade show hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday and Thursday and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday.

World Pork Expo Industry Tour

A World Pork Expo Industry Tour is being offered for the second year. International visitors and others interested in the pork industry can register online to participate. Iowa is one of the top agricultural states in the U.S., providing an outstanding opportunity to see agriculture at work.

The Industry Tour will include visits to some of the foremost agricultural companies including Pioneer Hi-Bred International, one of the world’s leading developers and suppliers of advanced plant genetics to farmers worldwide; nutrient and ingredient manufacturer, Kemin Industries; and the Iowa State University Department of Animal Science, a leading U.S. animal science academic program.

Costs for the tours are $300 for two one-day tours, hotel not included, and $400 for the two-day tour which includes a hotel room for one night only, based on double occupancy.

Attendees on the two-day tour have the option to purchase a one-day tour for only $100 (offered June 1 only).

A special International Symposium Short Course will be held June 3. Presented by Iowa State University Department Animal Science staff and the Iowa Pork Industry Center, the symposium is a one day event with industry experts covering reproduction, nutrition, animal health, genetics and management. Cost is $250.

All costs include translators and Expo admission.

"World Pork Expo has always been an important event for our international visitors," says Don Butler, National Pork Producers Council president.

"Each year we host thousands of visitors and exhibitors from across the globe and we are excited to see who will be with us this year."
