Macedonia’s producers received more for their piglets in September than a year ago, the state statistics office has reported, even though the price was less than in August this year.

The average price of piglets up to 25 kilograms at livestock markets in Macedonia in September 2008 was MKD126 (equivalent to about US$2.82) per kilogram. This compared with MKD133 (US$2.97) in August and MKD123 (US$2.75) in September 2007. For pigs weighing 25 to 80kg, the average price per kilo in September this year was MKD112 (US$2.50), unchanged from August and a substantial improvement on the September 2007 payment of MKD98 (US$2.19).
