George's Processing pays fine

The poultry processor has finally paid a fine in relation to its hiring of illegal workers.

George’s Processing Inc., a poultry processor with operations in Southwest Missouri and based out of Springdale, Ark., has paid a $450,000 fine after a work-site investigation two years ago by federal immigration authorities.

In May 2007, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents arrested 137 illegal alien workers at the firm’s poultry processing plant near Cassville, Mo.

The fine was part of a compromise settlement signed in federal court, and funds will be used by ICE to promote future law enforcement programs in work-site enforcement. Payment does not constitute any admission of wrongdoing by the company.
