Intervet/Schering-Plough Animal Health, based in The Netherlands, announced a multi-year sponsorship project supporting the Shire Highlands Milk Producers Association (SHMPA) in Malawi, Africa. The objective is to support small dairy farms in their milk management capabilities.

This will be accomplished with financial and in-kind support. Initially, the project will focus on improved animal health by building a veterinary laboratory. The scope may expand to milk quality improvement, animal husbandry and farm management.

Funding will come from customer-focused, sales-related incentive programs linked to the cattle business. This model is already being used successfully by Intervet/Schering-Plough to support a dog rabies eradication program in Tanzania.
