President Donald Trump’s use of the Defense Production Act may not do much to improve the situation for poultry processors.

Worry about the availability of meat – caused by worker absences and plant closures related to COVID-19 – is growing in the U.S. Some restaurants and retailers are pulling menu items or instituting purchasing limits for their customers. In a WATT Poultry Chat interview, Mark Jordan, executive director of LEAP Market Analytics, spoke about the impact of the recent executive order and the continuing outlook for worker availability.

He predicts labor availability will continue to be a problem for the next few months as the COVID-19 outbreak continues in the country.
