Annual conference focusing on commercial poultry, avian diseases to be held virtually

2020 Pennsylvania Poultry Conference and the Northeastern Conference on Avian Diseases to be held in September.

The 2020 Pennsylvania Poultry Sales and Service Conference and the 92nd Northeastern Conference on Avian Diseases will be held virtually September 15 and 16. It is presented by Penn State Extension in the College of Agricultural Sciences and its Department of Animal Science along with the University of Delaware’s Department of Animal and Food Sciences.

“Industry representatives are encouraged to attend the virtual conference to learn about recent efforts to improve poultry health, management, and production strategies,” said Dr. John Boney, assistant professor of poultry science with the Penn State College of Agricultural Sciences. “Conference topics will also include in-depth knowledge about recent trends and issues pertinent to our industry.”

The two-day annual conference touches on general topics important in the poultry industry as well as breakout sessions for turkeys, layers, and broilers. Breakout sessions will be led by industry professionals and faculty members across North America.

The NECAD Symposium will take place on the morning of Tuesday, September 15. Topics of discussion include zoonoses and pandemics, poultry microbiomes, and non-antibiotic control.

General session topics on Tuesday will include farm emergency planning, employee safety, insect control, global diseases, and mental health. There will be a student showcase with Penn State Poultry Science Club students, providing an excellent opportunity to interact with the next generation of poultry industry professionals. A virtual social hour will conclude the first day of the conference.

Wednesday’s breakout topics includes different tracks for eggs and layers, turkeys, and broilers. Key topics from these three track sessions include vaccinations, markets, commodities, biosecurity, diagnostic labs, genomes, litter management, and egg quality.

There will be a virtual opportunity to meet and chat with various vendors during the Vendor Showcase.

The registration fee is $25. The full conference schedule and online registration can be found at https://extension.psu.edu/pennsylvania-poultry-sales-and-service-conference. The registration deadline is September 11.
