Price for smaller pigs goes up; price for bigger pigs falls

In Macedonia, the average livestock market price of pigs smaller than 80 kilograms was higher in December 2009 than in December 2008, but the average price of pigs larger than 80 kilograms fell, according to the Macedonian government.

The average price of pigs weighing 25–80 kilograms was 133 denari (US$3.14) per kilogram in December 2009, compared with 128 denari (US$3.03) per kilogram in December 2008. The average price of pigs weighing 80–125 kilograms was 107 denari (US$2.53) in December 2009 and 109 denari (US$2.58) in December 2008, according to Macedonia's State Statistical Office.

A geographical breakdown of pig prices at markets in Macedonia in December 2009 reveals that the country's highest average price for pigs weighing 25–80 kilograms was in Struga, and the lowest price was in Obleshevo. For pigs weighing 80–125 kilograms, the highest average price was in Krivogashtani, and the lowest was in Obleshevo.
