Japan approves Pfizer boar taint vaccine

Company says Improvac will be widely available in late 2010

The Japanese Ministry of Agriculture Forestry and Fishery has approved Pfizer Animal Health’s Improvac boar taint vaccine as safe and effective for use by veterinarians in pigs throughout Japan. Improvac temporarily interrupts testicular function, which results in the control of the level of key taint-causing compounds at the time of slaughter.

The company says the vaccine will be widely available for prescription in Japan in late 2010.
