Hartnell receives animal science award

Gary Hartnell, an animal nutritionist at Monsanto Co., received the New Frontiers in Animal Nutrition award by the Federation of Animal Science Societies (FASS). The honor rewards pioneering and innovative research relevant to animal nutrition that benefits mankind and  nutritional value of foods from animals, according to the organization.

A committee of FASS members selected Hartnell to receive the award, which was presented at a recent animal-science societies conference. Other FASS awards went to: Hans H. Stein of the University of Illinois, Nonruminant Nutrition Research Award; Timothy McAllister of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, Ruminant Animal Nutrition Award; Michael E. VanAmburgh of Cornell University, Dairy Nutrition Research Award; and L. Lee Southern of Louisiana State University, Poultry Nutrition Research Award.
