Members of the Kashmir Valley Poultry Farmers' Association have appealed to the Indian government to remove the poultry sector from its "negative list."

The industry's placement on the list, according to association President G. M. Bhat, has made it impossible for thousands of farmers to get financial assistance from banks. “No bank is financing poultry farming, no government agency is registering them, no company is giving insurance and above all rates are being fixed by [government officials] who do not know even the basics of this sector,” he said.

The association has also suggested giving industrial status to the poultry sector and creating a committee of poultry farmers, experts from the government's animal husbandry department and officials from district administration who would be responsible for setting poultry rates.
