On the veterinary front, all the headlines recently seem to have been about PRRS. Blamed for occurring in a particularly virulent form that resulted in high pig mortality rates and a national shortage of pork in China, it has also surfaced aggressively in parts of Vietnam. Health agencies in Sweden meanwhile confirmed the first cases of infection in Swedish herds, ending the country's long held freedom from the virus.

In the following special reports we cover the impact of PRRS on meat markets in Asia, the progress being made in Latin America and North America to beat the infection and the worldwide research focus on finding the next generation of vaccines. See pages 8-17.
