JBS has entered into an agreement to acquire the margarine assets from Bunge Alimentos in Brazil.

The company, in a notice to the market, stated that it has made an offer to acquire those assets for a price of BRL700 million (US$172.3 million). The transaction, according to the notice, provides manufacturing contracts and trademark licensing.

The notice is dated December 20.

Under the proposed deal with Bunge, JBS would acquire three production facilities. They are located in Gaspar,  São Paulo and Suape. JBS would also acquire the brands Delícia, Primor and Gradina, with the latter focused on the food service segment.

JBS stated that this acquisition will strengthen its Seara subsidiary's position in the Brazilian margarine segment, optimizing its distribution platform and is aligned with the company's strategy to expand its portfolio of value-added and branded products.

The closing of this transaction is subject to the approval of the Brazilian Administrative Council for Economic Defense (CADE), among other usual conditions for this type of transaction.

Marba acquisition finalized

In a separate notice to the market, JBS said its proposed acquisition of Frigorífico Marba was finalized on December 20.

The company announced its intent to purchase the Brazil-based company, specializing in cold cuts, sausages and bologna.

The terms of that transaction were never disclosed, but in an earlier notice to the market, JBS revealed that Frigorifico Marba has annual revenues of around BRL350 million (US$85.7 million). It is also expected to become part of JBS’ Seara subsidiary.

JBS, a diversified global meat, poultry and food company, is headquartered in Sao Paolo, Brazil. According to the WATTAgNet Top Poultry Companies Database, it is the world’s largest broiler company and slaughters about 3.5 billion birds annually.

It is also involved in turkey production, and is a leading global producer of pork and beef products.
