BRF announced it is hiring more than 2,000 people in an effort to help the company maintain its production and supply levels as global demand for meat and poultry products spikes during the COVID-19 pandemic.
In an announcement to the market published on the BRF investor relations webpage, the company reinforced its commitment with actions to minimize the impacts of the pandemic. It stated that in addition to hiring the new workers as both company employees and third-party service providers, the Brazil-based meat and poultry company would maintain all its jobs during the months of April and May, “performing only the normal changes under the regular course of its business.”
Donations of medical resources and other supplies
In addition to increasing its staffing during the coronavirus pandemic, BRF has allocated BRL50 million (US$9.4 million) to contribute to the efforts to combat the effects of the pandemic. The money will be used to donate food, medical supplies and support to research and social development funds. The action will reach about 60 hospitals in nine Brazilian states, as well as in philanthropic entities, social assistance organizations and health professionals in the areas which BRF operates.
BRF estimates its donations should benefit more than 15 thousand people per day and will provide food for about 2.5 million meals for the next three months.
In addition, the company plans to donate medical supplies – including COVID-19 tests, thermometers, personal protective equipment, and hand sanitizers -- and other supplies as deemed necessary.
The company will extend the giving to include countries where it has production facilities, including Turkey and the United Arab Emirates.
BRF, formerly known as Brasil Foods, is the second-largest poultry producer in Brazil, and the third largest in the world, trailing only JBS and Tyson Foods. The company slaughtered about 1.63 million broilers during the past year.
