Koch Foods intends to construct a new cold storage facility in Fairfield, Ohio, a county official said.

Butler County Development Director David Fehr told the Journal-News that Koch Foods last year purchased a former Liberty Mutual insurance building in Fairfield, as well as adjacent property. The plan is to demolish the building, and then begin construction of the cold storage facility.

The Butler County Port Authority recently passed a resolution in which the authority would assist Koch Foods in the demolition of the Liberty Mutual building and the construction of the 450,000-square foot cold storage unit.

The proposed plan values the cold storage construction project at $100 million.

The property is located about a mile away from Koch Foods’ poultry plant in Fairfield.

The Fairfield poultry plant underwent a $220 million expansion, which includes a new building on the campus of an already existing plant. The expansion includes three new production lines and is expected to increase the number of employees there by about 400.

Koch Foods, according to the WATTPoultry.com Top Poultry Companies Database, processed 62.1 million pounds of ready-to-cook chicken on a weekly basis during the past year.

Headquartered in Park Ridge, Illinois, Koch Foods was founded in 1985. It now has operations in Illinois, Ohio, Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi and Tennessee. The company brand is Koch Foods and it also supplies private labels.
