The Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality (NDEQ) will hold a hearing on August 8 to accept testimony on a proposed air quality construction permit for Lincoln Premium Poultry for a chicken hatchery, poultry processing plant and feed mill, all of which are to be located in Fremont, Nebraska.
The future poultry plant is to process chicken for sale at Costco stores, with the feed mill and hatchery being built to support production for the plant.
The hearing will be held at 5 p.m. at the Christensen Field Multi-Purpose Building in Fremont. Preceding the hearing, from noon to 4 p.m., NDEQ will hold an information exchange session to answer questions from the public related to the proposed air construction permit. The information exchange will not include any formal presentations and will give the public the opportunity to have informal one-on-one discussions with NDEQ staff, including staff from other department programs.
The public will be able to offer testimony and written comments on the proposed permit at the 5 p.m. hearing. All comments and documents submitted at the hearing will become part of the public record. The hearing provides only for the presentation of testimony with no cross-examination of those testifying and no provision for questions and answers.
A groundbreaking ceremony the new poultry facilities was held on June 19. The future plant is expected to open in April 2019.
