In late July, a delegation from the Ministry of Agriculture of China made a trade visit to Russia, reported Rosselkhoznadzor, the Russian Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance.
Both sides addressed concerns about animal and avian diseases, with a particular emphasis on foot-and-mouth disease, African swine fever and lumpy skin disease.
China has been a particular country of interest in terms of a destination for poultry and pork exports. Earlier this week, officials from Belarus stated that the country intends to start shipping poultry to China by the summer of 2018. In the U.S., a non-partisan group of U.S. senators wrote to Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue, urging him to push the Chinese government to end its ban on the sale of U.S. poutry products.
