Looking at table egg layers in the top 10 egg producing states in flocks 30,000 and above, layer numbers were higher in four states while down in six. Iowa layer numbers were down 1%; Ohio, up 3%; Indiana, down fractionally; Pennsylvania, up 1%; California, up 3%; Texas, down 2%; Florida and Nebraska, each down 5%; Minnesota, down 2%; and Georgia, up 1%.
January layer numbers up fractionally
Layer numbers on January 1 were up just fractionally, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s latest Chicken and Eggs report. Egg type chickens hatched during December were up 1% from year-earlier levels.
