Twelve containers of chicken from Brazil’s Doux Frangosul Company are expected to arrive in China in the first week of June, the first shipment since China lifted its ban on poultry imports from Brazil, the Brazilian Association of Chicken Producers and Exporters announced May 29.
The contract calls for a total of 300 metric tons, with an estimated value of $500,000, according to Beijing’s state-owned Xinhua News Agency.
Three more chicken import contracts are currently being negotiated, according to the ABEF.
China reopened its chicken import market to 24 Brazilian chicken producers on May 19 as a result of an agreements signed by Brazil’s President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and China’s President Hu Jintao at a summit in Beijing.
