NCC slams documentary as 'misleading'

"Food, Inc." shows farmer saying small-scale production would produce better food

The National Chicken Council says the new documentary on the U.S. food industry titled "Food, Inc.," is "one-sided and misleading."

The movie, released on June 4, shows Virginia farmer Joel Salatin, who has a pastured poultry operation, saying small-scale production would produce better food. However, NCC says small-scale operations occupy only a small niche in the overall system and would not be able to provide sufficient food for the 300 million Americans and other people around the world.

NCC says the cost to consumers would be prohibitive, noting that products from small-scale producers are typically more expensive than products from mainstream producers.
