H1N1 found in Thai swine

Pig suspected to have caught illness from a university student

The Public Health Ministry in Thailand reported a pig in the country has been confirmed to have the H1N1 virus, December 17. The affected animal is in the Saraburi province, according to the Bangkok Post.

The pig was one of 80 tested for the illness, and it is suspected to have contracted the virus from a student at Kasetsart University's Tapkwan research station.

Local farmers and residents have been under observation, but so far no one has contracted the virus.

Officials stress pork is still safe to consume when prepared properly.
