2010 US dietary guidelines recommend 8 ounces of seafood per week

The U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Department of Health and Human Services recently released the 2010 Dietary Guidelines for Americans, recommending at least 8 ounces (two servings) of seafood be consumed per adult, per week. According to the guidelines, adults currently consume an average of 3.5 ounces per week, but benefits such as omega-3 fatty acids make an increase in consumption advisable.

A 2008 report in the Journal of Food Service found that 45% of Americans eat seafood once a week, while 22% do so twice a week.
