A free gauge to measure slat gaps is being offered to UK pig farmers to help them comply with the EU sow housing welfare directive that became law on January 1, 2013.

“Slats, particularly concrete ones, can become damaged or worn with age, particularly in heavily used areas,” says Quality Equipment director, Graham Baker. “Pig farmers whose slats gaps exceed the apertures specified risk failing their farm assurance inspections.”

The handy, pocked-sized, stainless-steel gauge, with 14mm 16mm 18mm 20mm and 22mm graduations, enables farmers or stockmen to check slat gaps in various parts of their piggeries quickly and easily without fiddling with tapes or rulers.

The gauges are available by post from Quality Equipment by calling +01359 240529.
