From WATT AgNet:

A 10-year-old lawsuit between Tyson Foods and workers at its pork plant located in Storm Lake, Iowa, has finally been settled.

The employees sued the company for the time they spent putting on and taking over their safety uniforms before and after shifts. The almost 3,900 employees, both past and present, will be given about $1,700 dollars apiece, a company spokesman said.

The case went all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court. The court rejected the company's approach at limiting employees' say in challenging pay and workplace problems. Supreme Court justices voted 6-2 against the new limits that Tyson requested be imposed on its workers’ ability to group together to challenge pay and other issues in the workplace.

Tyson’s appeal argued that the company should not have been forced to defend the class-action lawsuit claiming it “failed to pay thousands of ‘knife-wielding’ employees and others for time spent putting on and taking off protective work clothes and equipment at its Storm Lake plant. The employees do their jobs on the plant's slaughter or ‘kill’ floor and on the processing or ‘fabrication’ floor.”
