Senator Rob Black tours Ontario chicken farm.

The Honourable Senator Rob Black, visited the Klompmaker family farm to discuss issues important to the chicken industry. Senator Black is a long-time supporter of Canada’s chicken farmers, and hosting the Senator was an excellent opportunity to update him on issues affecting the chicken industry and how CFO Farmer-Members have been extremely resilient in raising chicken as usual during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“It was an honour to have Senator Black on the farm to discuss support for supply management and how chicken farmers are innovating for the next generation,” said Tim Klompmaker, CFO Board Director for District 9 and 2nd Vice-Chair of Chicken Farmers of Canada. “I was happy to also showcase to Senator Black how resilient the chicken industry has been during the COVID-19 pandemic and although it has not been business as usual, chicken farmers have continued to supply chicken steadily to Ontarians and their families.”

CFO, in alignment with the Chicken Farmers of Canada (CFC), has a strong track record of working with the federal government and demonstrating leadership in the chicken industry, supply management sector, and in agriculture.

The Honourable Rob Black has worked with the Ontario Ministry of Agriculture, Food, and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA) for 15 years. He has also been closely involved in 4-H and other leadership programs, such as Junior Farmers and the Advanced Agricultural Leadership Program (AALP). Senator Black was Ward 5 Representative on Wellington County Council, and has also served as Manager of the Ontario Research and Development Challenge Fund, and President of the Ontario Agricultural Hall of Fame Association and the Wellington County Historical Society.
