Tyson Foods is investing more than $20 million into the local Newbern, Tennessee, community by expanding its production capabilities, building a team-member wellness center and constructing an independent roadway for production transportation.
“This project has already proven to be instrumental to facility performance, as we continue to meet increased demand for our Jimmy Dean, Hillshire Farm, and other category-leading products,” said Stewart Glendinning, president of Prepared Foods, Tyson Foods.
The first phase of the project broke ground in April of 2021 with a 221,000-square-foot expansion to the facility’s existing barn, with a completed total of 60,625 square feet. The expanded space provides a 20 percent increase in capacity at the facility that employs more than 600 team members.
The final two phases of the project are currently underway, with expected completion in early 2023. A new independent roadway complete with a guard shack will create separate access for transporting livestock to the facility, which will enhance safety measures.
Additionally, a new team member well-being building, complete with office space, conference area, break room, restrooms, and changing rooms, among other amenities, will encourage and support a healthy lifestyle for personal and professional development.
“I’m thrilled to celebrate our investment in our Newbern Prepared Foods plant with our hard-working, dedicated team members,” said Stan Welch, plant manager at Tyson Foods. “These improvements reaffirm our dedication to the broader Tyson Foods mission to produce quality food products and strive to be the most sought-after place to work.”
This exclusive well-being building is just one investment Tyson Foods has made in its team members in the past year. Most recently, the company announced it was giving more than 90,000 hourly U.S. team members approximately $50 million in year-end bonuses to thank them for their work throughout the past year. Tyson Foods strives to be the most sought-after place to work and ensures team members have the tools and resources they need to be successful, such as job training, a safe workplace, competitive compensation, benefits and life skills training.
