Tyson Foods completes expansion at Kentucky plant

Tyson Foods completed an $83 million expansion to its cocktail sausage manufacturing facility for Hillshire Farm brands products located in Claryville, Kentucky.

The expansion adds 15,000 square feet to an existing 342,000 square food facility, as well as state-of-the-art equipment to increase production by 50% to better serve customers, according to the press release..

Sales of Hillshire Farm products are up 11% this year, supported by the “Oh, Hill Yeah!” ad campaign across TV, print, social media and online. Comedian and actress Amy Sedaris recently took part in the campaign through the creation of flavor-packed sandwiches inspired by celebrity friends and family, Andy Cohen and David Sedaris.

The two plants already located in Claryville, in operation since 1984, currently produce 13 million pounds of hot dogs, sliced meats and 70% of the world’s cocktail sausages.

The facility employs 750 team members that produce more than 120 million pounds of protein yearly. 

Across Kentucky, Tyson Foods employs more than 3,900 workers, including  a bacon plant in Bowling Green and a poultry plant in Robards. The poultry company’s total statewide impact was more than $425 million in 2020.

Headquartered in Springdale, Arkansas, Tyson Foods, according to the WATTPoultry Top Companies survey, processed 206.68  million pounds of ready-to-cook chicken on a weekly basis in 2022. It remains the largest poultry producer in the United States.
