Future of sustainable farming requires optimization, communication

Four industry leaders at the Animal Agriculture Alliance Stakeholders Summit discussed the complex issues surrounding environmental sustainability and global food production. Global food security requires facing, adapting to climate change

Two recent reports outlining the effects of climate change on crop and food production state that adaptation is essential to continued productivity. Agricultural experts discussing these reports in a Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) briefing on May 1 concluded that the time to act is now.

International Poultry Expo, International Feed Expo shifts dates to offer more educational programs

The 2012 International Poultry Expo, co-located with the International Feed Expo, has moved to a Tuesday-Wednesday-Thursday format to increase the number of educational programs available before and after the Expo. The global poultry and feed industry event is scheduled Tuesday through Thursday, January 24-26, 2012, at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, with the educational programs rounding out the weeklong event.

The 2012 International Poultry Expo and International Feed Expo, January 24-26, will feature even more educational programming.

Egg producer operates innovative nutrient recycling systems

It shouldn’t be too surprising that Dave Thompson, owner of Pearl Valley Eggs, employs some unconventional technologies for waste management on his Illinois farm. Thompson, a former elementary school teacher, has grown his company over the last two and a half decades to include 1.1 million hens, an egg packing facility and an organic fertilizer operation. Pearl Valley uses a reed bed biofilter to remove biosolids from the wastewater stream and convert them to plant material, and a manure composting system to convert layer waste into organic fertilizer products used coast to coast.

The International Poultry Expo/International Feed Expo (IPE/IFE) will bring together 20,000 industry leaders from over 100 countries in Atlanta from January 26 to 28, 2011. Sponsored by the U.S. Poultry & Egg Association (USPOULTRY) and the American Feed Industry Association (AFIA), IPE/IFE is the world's largest display of technology, equipment, supplies and services used in the production and processing of poultry, eggs and in feed manufacturing.
