A new bidding program will aid in connecting food companies with cage-free egg commitments in China with major egg producers to support the growth of the country’s cage-free egg supply.

The program will allow egg producers to bid on supplying the cage-free egg needs of large domestic and multinational companies.

According to media platform Outlook New Era, outside of egg producers, the bidding program encourages companies or individuals who are planning to invest in cage-free production or interested in joint-venturing with buyers on constructing cage-free farms to participate.

The initiative was developed through a collaboration between industry organization Beijing Egg Association and animal welfare group Lever China. The organizations hope the program will give major producers the time to convert a portion of their production to cage free and ensure that food companies have time to satisfy their cage-free pledge timelines.

Wang Zhong-qiang, Beijing Egg Association Secretary General, stated, “The aim of this bidding program is to procure cage-free eggs that meet safety standards and are in stable supply for buyers, and to ensure that supply and demand are matched in terms of logistics, packaging and delivery time and more.”

“We have lined up a large number of leading egg suppliers to join the bidding program, and they are ready to provide a stable supply of cage-free eggs to buyers across the retail, restaurant, packaged foods and hospitality sectors,” added Mutzu Huang, Lever China Program Director. “Food companies interested in participating in the upcoming events, whether domestic or international, are welcome to inquire with Lever China or the Beijing Egg Association.”

In support of expanding the cage-free egg supply, Lever China released the country’s first large-scale cage-free egg production book at the 2022 China Egg Industry Summit, according to media company EIN Presswire.

The Cage Free Egg Producers' Guide, published by state-affiliated China Agricultural Press, offers technical assistance on cage-free egg production and features first-hand experiences from industry experts in China.
