Maple Leaf Farms CEO Scott Reinholt will retire at the end of fiscal year 2023. He will be succeeded by Scott Tucker, presently the co-president, beginning on December 1.

“We would like to extend our profound appreciation for Scott’s strong leadership and the many other contributions he made during his tenure with Maple Leaf Farms. We wish him nothing but the best as he embarks on his retirement,” Tucker said in an e-mailed statement to WATTPoultry.com

Reinholt will continue to serve on the Maple Leaf Farms and Eurasia Group boards of directors. In addition, John Tucker, co-president, was named president, according to a press release from Maple Leaf Farms.

Maple Leaf Farms is a family-owned duck producer located in northern Indiana that has been in operation since 1958

Interest in duck meat surged in the U.S. during the COVID-19 pandemic as stuck-at-home consumers looked for alternative proteins to chicken and beef and became more adventurous in their cooking. This growth is expected to continue over the next few years, with market size set to increase by $1.75 billion between 2021 and 2026, according to global technology research and advisory company, TechNavio.

When it comes to production, most people assume that the preferences of ducks are the same as those of chickens or turkeys. Unfortunately, that’s a common misperception. Research at Texas A&M revealed that ducks have different preferences when it comes to lighting, probiotics and more.

About Scott Tucker

Tucker earned a Bachelor of Science in management from Purdue University and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

He was named co-president of Maple Leaf Farms in 2001. Tucker has represented the company on several boards, including the Indiana State Poultry Association, the Indiana Chamber of Commerce and Kusciusko Economic Development Corporation

About Scott Reinholt

Reinholt joined Maple Leaf Foods in 2002 as chief financial officer, where he successfully led the company’s financial and Eurasia Group teams. In 2017, he was promoted to chief operating officer before being appointed to CEO in 2021.

“As CEO, Scott excelled while leading our management team through an unprecedented business climate,” said chairman of the Board Terry Tucker. “Throughout his 21 years of service to our company, he has made a lasting impact on Maple Leaf Farms, and we are very appreciative of his dedication and efforts to grow the business.”

“My time with Maple Leaf Farms has been gratifying, and I’m very thankful for all the wonderful people I’ve been fortunate to work with over the past two decades,” said Reinholt. “It has been an honor to work with the Tucker family to lead this company, and I look forward to supporting Scott as he transitions into his new role.”
