Nepal chicken industry suffers monopoly

Quota system reduces chicken to Kathmandu Valley

According to reports, Nepal’s Kathmandu Valley has been the location of a chicken monopoly that is negatively impacting the poultry industry in the Chitwan district.

Kathmandu and Dhading entrepreneurs are using a quota system that limits the supply of broiler chickens to approximately 50 quintals a day. Typically the amount would be three times as much. Deliveries to the area are being interrupted to keep the chicken count low.

Proprietors have said their businesses will be severely affected if the chicken quota system continues.
