OVUM: “The meeting” of the Latin American poultry industry

Just as I wrote a couple weeks ago about the efforts made by the Latin American Poultry Producers Association (ALA), now it is time to write about the regional meeting: the OVUM.

Just as I wrote a couple weeks ago about the efforts made by the Latin American Poultry Producers Association (ALA), now it is time to write about the regional meeting: the OVUM.

The 27th Latin American Poultry Congress, renamed OVUM since the last edition in Lima, Peru, organized by ALA, has evolved to be the largest, most appreciated meeting for poultry producers, nutritionists, veterinarians, technical people, as well as companies in animal health, nutrition, genetics, incubation, equipment and other businesses.

This time, the congress will take place from September 6-9 in San Pedro Sula, the business capital of Honduras.

This country, located in Central America, produced more than 125 million broilers in 2021, ranking No. 12 out of 19 nations. It has 4.5 million hens in production, ranking No. 12 in the region. This shows the diversity of Latin America and the equal opportunity for all nations to be the showcase of the industry.

The top two Honduran broiler producers are two multinationals  Cargill and CMI Alimentos –  while the two egg producing companies Inavih and Las Delicias have 1 million hens and 0.8 million hens, respectively.

The congress will have a world-class, wide technical program, presented mostly in Spanish and Portuguese, but simultaneous translation into English will be provided. There is also an exhibition floor where all major companies will be exhibiting.

Also, continuing with the tradition, the 18th edition of the Latin American Poultry Hall of Fame will take place at the event.

Additionally, if you want to indulge yourself, you can always take the opportunity to visit the Mayan ruins of Copán, a magnificent, well-kept archeological area in western Honduras, see natural wonders such as the Yojoa lake or the Pico Bonito Park or scuba dive around the island of Roatán or relax on its wonderful beaches.

So, do not hesitate to visit the OVUM website. I must emphasize that this is the time to participate in pushing forward this event after the pandemic and supporting our industry. Registration is already open!
