A commercial broiler breeder flock in Missouri is latest commercial poultry operation to be struck by highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in the United States.

According to information from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) the presence of HPAI was confirmed at the premises on November 6.

The affected broiler breeder operation is in Benton County, Missouri, and involved 16,600 birds.

This is Missouri’s first case of HPAI in a commercial poultry flock in 2023. The last time the state had seen a commercial flock affected by HPAI was November 28, 2022.

Another HPAI case in Alberta, Canada

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency has listed one more premise to have commercial poultry struck by HPAI. The presence of the virus was confirmed at a farm in Willow Creek.

So far in 2023, HPAI has been discovered at six commercial poultry farms in Alberta.
