West Palm Beach opposes caged eggs

Other Florida cities condemning battery cages are Winter Springs and New Port Richey.

West Palm Beach, Fla., has become the third city government in Florida and the seventh nationwide to pass a resolution opposing battery cages. The resolution, which passed unanimously late last month, states that the West Palm Beach City Commission “opposes battery cage production, based on the inherent cruelty of confining egg-laying hens in battery cages,” and further “encourages consumers of eggs not to purchase eggs produced by caged hens.”

Other Florida cities condemning battery cages are Winter Springs and New Port Richey.

The Florida Poultry Federation has sent letters to all Florida cities, however, warning them to oppose resolutions that advise residents not to purchase eggs from caged chickens.
