The highly requested Popeyes Ghost Pepper Wings are back for a limited time to ring in the new year.

The $5 basket of six wings is marinated in a ghost pepper spice blend for at least 12 hours before it is battered and breaded and served with Popeyes buttermilk ranch.
How many Scoville units are the ghost pepper wings?
The spiciness of different peppers and hot sauces is measured with Scoville heat units (SHU). The ghost pepper is 1 million SHU compared to a jalapeño – 8,000 SHU – and a habanero – 350,000 SHU.
In 2007, the Guinness World Records certified the ghost pepper as the hottest pepper in the world. Today the pepper does not even make the top five, according to USA Today, with Carolina reapers taking the top spot at 2.2 million SHU.
However, the ghost pepper is one of the more widely recognized peppers since it has sparked multiple trending challenges online.

The Ghost Pepper Wings are not the only recent addition to the Popeyes menu. In November 2022, the chain released the Blackened Chicken Sandwich with an ad campaign challenging other restaurants to “copy this.”
The ad referenced the original Popeyes chicken sandwich from 2019 that launched the chicken sandwich wars.
