KFC boneless chicken a hit, global approach to thank

"With the nuggets and boneless chicken, we’re sharing best practices from around the world," said Yum! Brands CFO, Chris Turner.

After launching its chicken nuggets earlier this year, KFC saw same-store sales rise 5% in the U.S. with 100 million chicken nuggets sold in the first eight weeks after the launch, according to Restaurant Business.

“These boneless offerings appeal to younger and new KFC customers and build upon an already well-established sales layer following the successful launch of the chicken sandwich in 2021,” said CEO of KFC’s parent company Yum! Brands, David Gibbs.

And according to Yum! Brands CFO, Chris Turner, U.S. KFC achieved this success by emulating KFC brands in other countries.

“Eighty-five percent of KFC is outside the U.S. Many of those markets have had high-performing chicken off the bone for decades,” said Turner “With the nuggets and boneless chicken, we’re sharing best practices from around the world.”

  • Canada’s Big Boss Sandwich is two fried chicken patties topped with lettuce, pickles, cheese, and signature sauce with a side of fries.
  • India’s Biryani Chicken includes chicken nuggets served on rice.
  • South Africa’s Nacho Cheese Crunch Burger is a chicken fillet covered in nacho cheese sauce and topped with a slice of cheese, cheese-flavored nacho chips and mayonnaise.
  • Singapore’s Chizza is fried chicken topped with tomato sauce and mozzarella and comes with pizza toppings like ham, pineapple, and KFC sauce.
  • Malaysia’s Golden-Wrapped Chicken is based off of a Chinese dish called paper-wrapped chicken where marinated chicken is wrapped in paper or foil and baked or deep-fried and served with mushrooms and corn.
