Canada’s latest case of highly pathogenic avian influenza in a commercial poultry flock was confirmed on October 15 in Langley Township, British Columbia.

The case was reported by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA), but further information concerning the type of poultry was involved or the size of the affected flock has not yet been released.

This is Langley Township’s second case of HPAI in commercial poultry in 2022. The township has also had two cases in backyard poultry. British Columbia has had six cases of HPAI in commercial flocks so far this year.

Prior to this case, Canada had gone eight days without a confirmed HPAI case. On October 7, cases were confirmed in Bifrost-Riverton, Manitoba; Les Jardins-de-Napierville, Quebec; and Monet, Saskatchewan. Previously, the last case to be confirmed in British Columbia was a commercial layer flock of 70,000 hens in Chilliwack, confirmed on September 12.
