Cameras, microphones and other Internet of Things (IoT) sensors could help growers and integrators proactively address poultry health, welfare, and equipment challenges, while also aiding company environmental, social and governance (ESG) goals.

“There isn’t anything that show these kinds of insights for poultry in the grow out cycle. We only see things reactively,” said Marcel Sarzen, president and CEO, AGL Technology.

Lenders and other major stakeholders are beginning to factor in sustainability and environmental, social and governance (ESG) concerns before making investment decisions about chicken brands. Besides sustainability, ESG evaluates social concerns including diversity, employee relations, consumer protection and animal welfare.

At the 2023 Poultry Tech Summit, Sarzen will talk about how precision farming can offer growers and integrators fully automated insights and alerts, allowing them to address a wide range of production issues and optimization opportunities.

The Poultry Tech Summit, scheduled for November 6-8 at the Hilton Atlanta Airport in Atlanta, Georgia, focuses on the transition of innovative technologies into commercial applications to advance the poultry industry.

Registration for this event is now open. Early bird savings are available until September 29th.

Whole housing monitoring

The whole house monitoring system means that there are eyes and ears monitoring a poultry flock 24/7, providing real-time insights into production, health, welfare and sustainability without the need for additional labor.

“We’re putting in cameras and microphones that are listening in and they’re looking for a digital fingerprint of problems,” Sarzen explained. “With the ability to listen with that microphone for problems with a disease outbreak or equipment malfunction, I can catch it earlier with a chance to resolve it.”

A mobile app and analytics portal for integrators and growers let’s them see exactly what’s going on in a poultry house, “no different than a Ring doorbell or any of the other camera home technology,” he added.

According to data collected from a commercial turkey operation, precision farming increased livability by 8.7 points and body weight by 2.6 pounds.
