Wayne-Sanderson Farms plans to capitalize on the popularity of chicken wings with the release of new flavors, Crispy Fliers, Buffaloo and Flying Saucers.

“We expect sales to increase as word spreads about our new capability,” said Keri Hart, Wayne-Sanderson Farms Brand Manager, who oversees marketing of the portfolio of wing products.

“As COVID restrictions ease, out-of-home dining numbers are picking up and America’s love of chicken wings continues to soar,” noted Hart.

The average person consumes approximately 16 wings per sitting or 290 wings per years, according to the press release.

During the pandemic, chicken wings grew in popularity for delivery. They travel well and are typically offered in a variety of flavors and sizes, a benefit for families trying to find something for everyone.

Consumers love wings

The company can produce both steamed and roasted bone-in wing products at its Decatur Prepared Foods Complex and has long-term established relationships with some of the nation’s leading consumer brands. The production line can produce up to 42 million pounds of chicken wings per year.

The new chicken wing line is available at restaurants, foodservice operators and distributors across the country.

“Our customers wanted more product because wings are winners on every table,” Tom Bell, Wayne Farms vice president of prepared foods, said.

“Practically every restaurant segment – from quick-serve to fine-dining – has a wing offering somewhere on their menu. People love wings, and we want our customers to have those products available.”

Wayne-Sanderson Farms formed in July 2022 following the acquisition of Sanderson Farms by Cargill and Continental Grain Company. Clint Rivers, currently CEO of Wayne Farms, has been appointed CEO of the combined company.

According to the WATTPoultry.com Top Companies Database, Sanderson Farms is the third largest poultry company in the United States, while Wayne Farms is the seventh. Sanderson Farms produced 94.31 million pounds of ready-to-cook chicken on a weekly basis, while Wayne Farms produced 48.8 million pounds weekly.
