Pfizer Animal Health gives vet scholarships

First recipients announced

More than 200 veterinary students were awarded scholarships in a new $2 million program pairing Pfizer Animal Health with the American Veterinary Medical Foundation. The first awards went to 222 second- and third-year vet students totaling $555,000.

The initiative, designed to support the future of the veterinary profession, will provide up to $2 million in scholarships over its first three years. Scholarships are administered in partnership with the American Veterinary Medical Foundation. The U.S. Department of Agriculture projects a shortage of 600 veterinarians and anticipates demand for food-animal veterinarians will increase 12% to 13% by 2016.
