The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) plans to propose a rule to exempt farms from having to report emissions of ammonia and other air pollutants under the Federal Superfund Law.
The announcement was made by Jon Scholl, Agricultural Advisor to the Administrator of the EPA at both the Animal Agriculture Alliance Summit in Washington, D.C., and a livestock industry meeting in Iowa.
Scholl also said that EPA will clarify that manure not be considered a hazardous waste when properly used as a fertilizer, according to the United Egg Producers.
UEP says it wants Congress to clarify that lawmakers did not intend to regulate manure when it passed Superfund laws.
