To increase efficiency, poultry and prepared foods producer, Hormel Foods, has partnered with data analytics company, Crisp, to leverage data from retailers.
How does the technology work?
The Crisp platform collects data from retailers regarding shipments, inventory, product performance and more in an up-to-date, centralized location.
“With this data, we’re able to make more informed decisions, inform our retail partners, and implement new plans,” vice president, digital experience at Hormel Foods, Leslie Lee, told WATTPoultry.com. “With information on what happened the prior day, versus a week ago, we’re able to make more informed decisions and pivot quickly when needed.”
How does Crisp improve Hormel operations?
Before Crisp, Hormel collected and processed data from individual retailers manually which was much slower and prevented Hormel from making real-time decisions.
“Hormel wanted a way to get reliable data faster and free up teams to uncover insights and take action,” said Crisp CEO Are Traasdahl. “With Crisp, data from retailers is populated within Hormel’s Google Cloud environment every day, so Hormel can implement solutions to better serve retail customers and meet the needs of Hormel’s consumers.”
How can data analytics combat food waste?
By having accurate, daily updates on retailer inventory, Hormel can keep shelves stocked with the correct number of products, reducing the amount of food that goes to waste.
Updates on today’s consumer trends can also help producers like Hormel provide more of its popular products, like its premium chicken breast and sliced deli turkey, and pivot away from the less popular ones, i.e., the ones more likely to go to waste.
