To help meet the protein needs of a growing global population, Perdue Farms is partnering with the Pennsylvania State University Center for the Business of Sustainability as a founding member.
“As we celebrate our 100th year in business, we are honored to become a founding member of the Penn State Smeal Center for the Business of Sustainability to further our commitment to environmental stewardship,” said Steve Levitsky, Perdue Farms vice president of sustainability.
“This mutually beneficial partnership will allow us to work closely with the university and have access to their world-class research that can help to inform some of our environmental innovations to create a more sustainable future.”
Social and environmental opportunities
As a founding member, Perdue Farms will learn about social and environmental business opportunities through access to sustainability-focused research and education services. Other founding members include Verizon and IBM.
"The Smeal College of Business at Penn State has worked tirelessly to integrate sustainability considerations throughout both graduate and undergraduate teaching and research, and across all of the individual business disciplines in which students can major. Penn State's commitment to integrate this topic within its curricula reflects exactly what we endeavor to do in the business community every day,” Wayne Balta, vice president of corporate environmental affairs and product safety at IBM, said in an statement when they became a founding member.
Graduates of the Smeal Center for the Business of Sustainability will consider “new and exciting approaches to business challenges, accounting for the social and environmental impact of decision-making.” The college plans to partner with investors, business managers, NGOs and governments for business plan competitions focused on sustainable solutions.
“We are excited to add a company with the history and reputation of Perdue Farms to our growing list of founding members,” said Erik Foley, Director of the Center. “Perdue has long been an industry leader in responsible food and agriculture, and its commitment to consider the environment in every business decision is a stance we heartily embrace.”
