Wayne-Sanderson chicken breading designed for delivery

Nearly 70% of consumers order food online and more than 50% of restaurants offer delivery.

Wayne-Sanderson Farms has unveiled Kosmic Krunch, a new product line designed to keep chicken chunks, tenders and strips crunchy for delivery and takeout.

“With so many consumers turning to online and take-out, this is a huge development for our restaurant and food service operator customers,” said Keri Hart, Wayne-Sanderson Farms marketing brand manager.

“Keeping breading crisp and ready to serve is always a concern, particularly for takeout and delivery, and Kosmic Krunch provides both a solution and opportunity to expand menu options to deliver an unmatched experience for consumers.”

Nearly 70% of consumers order food online and more than 50% of restaurants offer delivery, according to a press release.

The consumer shift toward takeout and delivery over dine-in was accelerated by the COVID-19 global pandemic. Prior to the pandemic, approximately 5% of restaurant meals were takeout. That number has grown to 15-20%. 

Breading system for chicken texture

Kosmic Krunch relies on a proprietary breading system to maintain chicken texture for an extended amount of time during transit. The system was developed over the past year at the company’s Customer Innovation Center and test kitchen in Decatur, Alabama.

The product line is available in whole muscle and formed chicken product options, as well as par-fried and fully cooked. In addition to delivery, Kosmic Krunch could be used for catering, events or buffets, concessions, deli or convenience stores, which have become the new go to place for consumers to dine out at.
