High precision weighing with 3D camera technology

Peter Ahrendt, Ph.D., CEO, Animoni ApS, will discuss a new solution for high precision weighing of broilers that uses 3D camera technology to capture both the shape and volume of the birds and can record even in the dark with its internal IR light source. 

In contrast to traditional electronic weighers, the camera will weigh all birds below its field-of-view. Measuring both light and heavy birds allow more accurate estimates of flock average and uniformity. These are critical basic parameters and important steppingstones on the road to the digitalization in poultry production. 

Weight predictions, abnormality alerts and daily gain curves can all be created from these basic data. 

Genetic solution for the male chick layer problem

Unwanted by the egg and meat industries, approximately seven billion male chicks are culled around the world annually, a costly welfare issue for the entire poultry industry.

Yuval Cinnamon, Ph.D., principal investigator, Agricultural Research Organization, The Volcani Center - NRS Poultry Sustainability and Transformation, will talk about how genetic engineering technology generated a layer breed that produces only non-GMO layer hens hatch which lay the same table eggs as those currently produced by the industry "Male" eggs do not develop, saving 50% of incubation space and energy. 

AI-powered egg classification

More than seven billion eggs are wasted every year because there is no means to identify the eggs that will develop into healthy one-day-old chicks.

Pedro Gómez, CEO, Orbem GmbH, will present on a combination of MRI and artificial intelligence (AI) to help identify the eggs that will develop into healthy one-day-old chicks.

The breakthrough of AI has paved the way to make MRI fast, affordable, and simple. Moreover, computer vision technology sees through the eggshell and identifies characteristic features of fertility, contamination, cracks in the shell, double yolks and flipped eggs.
