The last issue of Industria Avícola magazine, the December 2020 issue, was published last week. Our readers learned of the news with the farewell cover article from the publication after 63 years of history.

Cindy, our associate editor, and Alex, our correspondent, as well as yours truly received a landslide of emails, WhatsApp text messages and even phone calls. From great personalities in the sector, to friends and people we don't personally know, all the way from Argentina to Mexico. All were surprised, and some even with certain disbelief, perhaps because of the times of fake news we are going through. But indeed, this news is real.

The decision to discontinue the magazine, which I do not actually mention in the farewell article, was made by the management of the company. It was purely a business decision. When a business is no longer profitable, you have to put it aside. However, it does make me feel sad, as I have already said before.

Everyone told me that we have been a benchmark in the industry. We have several readers whose parents before them read Industria Avícola. Many have congratulated us on the work that the Industria Avícola team has done, and we are most grateful for that. Others appreciated the cooperation between the two sides. Someone even asked me: And now, who is going to serve the 580 million Spanish speaking people about poultry? That is, nothing more and nothing less than 7.6% of the world's population, according to the Instituto Cervantes, and one of the most prosperous poultry industries in the world.

As some people told me, life has cycles, and the only permanent thing is change. Personally, I will continue to cover the Latin American poultry industry in English, as a contributor to Poultry International and WATTPoultry.com. In fact, I am already finishing my first article for the January issue.

Everyone wished us good luck. Many wonder what’s next. Well, we'll see what is next. But in the meantime, I will continue here. Life can actually surprise you.

What do you think?
