Popeyes Louisiana Chicken gave a Canadian game show contestant $10,000 after she confused the cartoon sailor with the popular chicken quick service restaurant.
On Thursday’s episode of ‘Family Feud Canada,’ the Dubois and the Tomlin families were tied going into the final, resulting in a sudden death playoff.
"Real simple. There's one question. Only one answer. Whoever gets it, you're playing for $10,000. That's it. Whoever guesses this wins the game," host Gerry Dee told two contestants.
The question?
“Name Popeye's favorite food,” Dee asked.
There was only one answer on the board – meaning whoever buzzed in with the most popular response advanced to the final round.
Eve Dubois was quick to ring in with the answer: “chicken!” She even capped it off with a celebratory dance.
The audience was stunned, with one family member gasping “Oh, my Goooood.” Everyone but Dubois seemed to realize that the question was referencing the popular cartoon character – Popeye the Sailor – not the popular quick service restaurant.
Her opponent, Logan Tomlin, rang in with the right answer. “I thought you meant Popeyes Chicken,” Dubois said as she turned back to her family’s podium.
The clip garnered 1 million views and over 14,000 likes after the show released the video on its Twitter account.
Survey says
On Friday, Popeyes – the chicken chain – tweeted "Our survey says you got that right. DM us to claim your $10,000 worth of Popeyes. #LoveThatChickenFromPopeyes.”
“Get that chicken, Eve,” the game show tweeted alongside a trophy emoji.
Popeyes made headlines in 2019 when the company’s spicy tweets ignited a viral Twitter was with rival quick service restaurant Chick-fil-a.
