Pollo Campero is fighting fire with fire with its spicy addition to the chicken sandwich war: The Spicy Chicken Sandwich with habanero mayo.
The $8.50 meal comes with a fried or grilled all-white meat chicken sandwich with pickles on a brioche bun, a drink and a side like Campero Beans, yuca fries or sweet plantains. And for a limited time, the sandwich is buy-one-get-one-free.
“With our new Spicy Chicken Sandwich, we've raised the bar on what fans can expect from Pollo Campero," said Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer Luis Javier Rodas. "Our habanero mayo, paired with our flavorful, one-of-a-kind Campero chicken, packs a punch and makes our new Spicy Chicken Sandwich the stand out choice among all the other contenders.”
With its habanero mayo, this is the spiciest option on the menu. According to the Scoville scale, a ranking of peppers by spiciness, habaneros are 150,000 Scoville units, for context jalapeños are 5,000 Scoville units and the hottest pepper in the world, the Carolina Reaper, is 1.5 million.
Heat wave
With this summer’s heat wave across the U.S., Pollo Campero is offering free drinks with the Spicy Chicken Sandwich if the local temperature reaches a certain degree, for example, if Dallas, Texas reaches 95 degrees. Other cities included in the deal are Houston, Texas; Los Angeles, California; New York City and Washington D.C.
The Guatemalan restaurant has 70 locations in the U.S. and is most notable for its fried chicken paired with popular Guatemalan sides.
